By William Ferrall Contributing Writer A host of Nantucket summertime regulars turned out June 24 for a welcoming summertime party at the new home of Susan Creehan Hostetler and established Nantucket sculptor David Hostetler. The Hostetlers decked out their house in dozens of new works by David, including a recent series of colored portrait serigraphs. A pert and smartly-dressed Susan Hostetler showed off their new digs. Many listened in and a few jammed with Hostetler's jazz band, featuring the artist on the drums. Nantucket Glassworks owner Jane Dana, along with husband and glass artist Robert Dane, stood in as flutist. Yankee Candle founder Michael Mttredge strummed lead guitar. Jim Wachtel kept time on the keyboard. Stewart McDaragh played along on bass. Hugh Conlin carried in his trusty harmonica for a few sessions of tunes. Conlin's partner and screen-writer Susan Sandier offered wann smiles. The tunes played well to Ohioans and summer residents Warren and Judy Baltimore. Barbara Beineeke-Spitler, in for the summer from Tiffin, Ohio, swayed along with husband Bill Spitler. Nantucket jewelry artist and real estate agent Susie Lister Locke said hellos to her boss Lucille Jordan, of Lucille Jordan Real Estate. Jordan pal Allan,Toole chatted along. Barbara Vanderbilt talked up her new Vanderbilt Gallery on Federal Street, where Hostettler friend and former student John Evans, also in attendance, shows sculptural and other creative work. Tom Kershaw, guru behind Boston's Hampshire House and owner of the Cheers legacy, touted his plans to bRing the schooner America to Nantucket and environs this summer, as part of the Tall Ships Sail to Boston. Kershaw, escorting sporty and attractive friend Constance Hughes, mentioned the impending Nantucket visit by his elegant mother, the 99-years-young Florence Kershaw. Word of the good vibee spread quickly as a group came by from Nantucket Film Festival happenings. Dom Alfieri, whose beautiful sailing vessel The Snow Goose often graces our harbor, came in with Lee Ann Cipro, Boston-area fashion model, and her friend Gary Ingles. Actress Amy Stiller, daughter of Anne Meara and Jerry Stiller, crossed the Hostetler threshold with Los Angeles friend and screenwriter Janet Ladd Ryan. The attractive and engaging Stiller had performed earlier in Film Festival stage readings. Hostetler neighbor and recent NHS grad Sean Kairnan kept the lively crowd satisfied with an impressive array of inviting foods, Final bites were downed in the wee hours of Sunday morning. |
