Forest and Form: Wood Sculptures by David Hostetler – Hostetler Studios, Athens, Ohio
Celebrating 100 years of vision, craft and the feminine muse.
Forest and Form presents one of the most significant gatherings of David Hostetler’s wood sculptures ever shown in Ohio. This exhibition features monumental works carved from elm, walnut, cherry, and other native hardwoods, offering a deep look at Hostetler’s evolution as a sculptor of the female form.
Installed within the artist’s historic home and studio, the show creates an immersive “forest” of carved figures — many of which have rarely or never been exhibited publicly.
This exhibition launches David Hostetler: A Century of Form and Spirit, a year‑long centennial celebration honoring the artist’s legacy, craftsmanship, and influence on American sculpture.
The event is free and open to the public. Select works will be available for purchase.
Come and enjoy the exhibit by appointment. Call or email to set one up.

Visit the studio, learn about David’s life and finish your read with a night cap at Club Dave.

Hostetler worked with indigenous hardwoods including elm, cherry, catalpa, white oak, walnut and maple as well as exotic woods of purpleheart, ziricote, lacewood and pink ivory, in addition to bronze. Browse our extensive collection.
“The final assessment of the sculpture of David Hostetler promises to be splendid indeed”
